Full Service! KTS series Euro 5-compatible – with access to reprogramming
The Euro 5 standard governs model approval for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles and allows access to repair information for vehicles.
According to the standard, diesel-operated vehicles can only emit 180 milligrams of nitric oxide (NOx) per kilometer – instead the current allowance of 250. The permissible emission of soot particles is lowered: Instead of 25 milligrams per kilometer, now only five. Nitric oxide emissions are limited to 60 milligrams per kilometer for gasoline engines (formerly 80). These requirements for model approval have been standardized throughout the European Union. At the same time, vehicle manufacturers have a duty to inform workshops. The Euro 5 standard applies to all new models made since September 2009.
New opportunities for independent workshops
According to the Euro 5 standard, vehicle manufacturers are obliged to provide technical repair information in their online portals and to make reprogramming of ECUs possible. This information will then be explicitly available not only to authorized dealers but also independent workshops.
Complete service and repair for all brands will be possible for every workshop: From oil change to troubleshooting and on to the configuration and reprogramming of ECUs.
The KTS series and the Euro 5 standard
For ECU reprogramming, only testers that are already Euro 5-compatible can be used. These are devices in which a so-called "PassThru Interface according to SAE J2534" is integrated. The PassThru standard describes a driver used for reprogramming ECUs. Bosch offers the KTS modules 530/540/570 and the testers KTS 340/670 for this purpose. But the KTS 520/550 modules and the KTS 650 tester used in many workshops are also Euro 5-compatible. If necessary, all named devices can install the respective current software version from the online portal of the vehicle manufacturer in the ECU of the vehicle. The vehicle manufacturers charges a fee for downloading data for ECU reprogramming.
Double benefit to the workshop: Comprehensive information with ESI[tronic] and ECU reprogramming
The full package for the KTS series is proverbial: ECU diagnostics (SD), troubleshooting instructions (SIS), Technical Service Bulletin (TSB), mechanical information and maintenance plans (M), electrical wiring diagrams (P) and all Bosch spare parts are already available via ESI[tronic]. Everything at one stop: Only with Bosch. In the case of competitors, a charge may be made for downloading these services from the online portal of the vehicle manufacturer. The bottom line is the Bosch solution is better. The ECU reprogramming now makes the KTS series conclusively the all around best equipped solution for the workshop. This is what counts!
Standardized: Reprogramming of ECUs in accordance with SAE J2534
The standard SAE J2534 (Society of Automotive Engineers) formulates the standardized communication basis for the reprogramming of ECUs in the vehicle. The independent workshop now simply requires a Euro 5-compatible tester, a PC with Windows operating system, USB and an Internet connection to the online portal of the vehicle manufacturer.
